Enabling TFTP on a Windows Computer

When TFTP is not enabled, there are two options for getting access to this feature.  Refer to the instructions below.

  1. You can enable TFTP on the customer's computer, which requires admin access.
    1. Go to the Control Panel on the customer's computer.
    2. Go to the Programs and Features item.
    3. Select Turn Windows Features on or off link.
    4. A list will appear.
    5. Scroll down to the TFTP client feature.
    6. Select the TFTP Client checkbox.
    7. This will take a few moments to enable.
    8. Select the OK button.
  2.  You can use the “TFTP.exe” file found in the “New Support Internal Wiki”.
    1. Open the “\\gsc\eems$\Support\New Support Wiki\Clocks – G1, G2, HP, IVR“ folder.
    2. Find the “TFTP.exe” file.
    3. Place this file on the customer's computer.
  3. If the computer’s firewall is blocking the TFTP application, you can turn off Windows Firewall or allow TFTP as follows:
    1. Click Start and in the Search for Programs and Files text box, type firewall, and press Enter.
    2. In the search results, click Windows Firewall.
    3. If the Windows Firewall is enabled, the Windows Firewall state will be "on."
    4. To turn it off, click Change settings or Turn Windows Firewall on or off in the left column.

You can now use the TFTP feature in the command prompt.
